Katharine Martin started Nest Hollow after years of managing native birds in her backyard and along trails. Along the way, she became inspired by other experienced trail managers who pointed her towards a passion and heart for true bird conservation.
Recognizing that many backyard birders don’t realize there are numerous threats to certain bird species, Katharine started Nest Hollow to bring awareness, education and inspiration.
Katharine has a degree in biology and business from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville where she also wrote for the college’s newspaper and was awarded second place in investigative journalism for her campus wildlife series.
Outside of Nest Hollow, Katharine writes for other life science websites and is very skilled at peer-reviewed literary research, first-hand interviewing, ethical journalism and developmental editing.
