Description

Make your backyard even more sustainable with this covered mealworm feeder!

It’s not just a mealworm feeder. This recycled plastic mealworm feeder allows you to both feed the birds and contribute even more to the environment. Certainly, if you’re feeding the birds and trying to conserve native wildlife, you’re already doing your part. But why not add to it?

Not to mention this is a great way to feed only the birds you care about, and not squirrels.

Durable, for years to come

Typical wooden feeders get gnawed at. They also don’t stand the test of time quite as long. After a year, they can look a little rough. That’s not to say they don’t still work, but they don’t look like they’re holding up quite as well as a recycled plastic mealworm feeder.

While this feeder might be more of an investment, it will last you much longer, and look good for a lot longer.

Easy to use. Easy to clean

If you’ve ever cleaned a wooden mealworm feeder, then you know that it can be a little tough. And bird waste and other debris likes to stick on and stain.

However, this recycled plastic mealworm feeder, just by its nature, is significantly easier to clean.

See who has been using it

We used one of our trail cameras to capture a few quick moments of birds using this feeder. Given the limited time, we were only able to catch two birds, a Carolina wren and a chickadee. Other cavity birds such as bluebirds, titmice and nuthatches will have no problem using this feeder.

Use other food besides mealworm

While these covered style cavity feeders are traditionally used for mealworm, you can also add seed. We recommend using a small dish or tray to put seed in or mealworm in. This helps keep the feeder cleaner. However, the fortunate thing about this feeder is that it is so easy to clean.

Feeder details

Dimensions: 11.75 x 8.75 x 9.25

Seed or Feed Options: Mealworm (dried or live), filler-free seed mixes. We do not recommend seed with filler such as millet, milo and cracked corn. This will attract invasive birds such as house sparrows. Unfortunately, when desperate, house sparrows will use this feeder.

Mounting: Hang to mount
Material: recycled plastic

Birds that use this feeder: Bluebirds, chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, house wrens and Carolina wrens. Again, beware, house sparrows can use this feeder if desperate enough. Only provide mealworm or filler-free seed mixes to help deter them. Blends with mostly safflower seed and black oil sunflower seed in the mix are most ideal for deterring house sparrows.
